Listen to the Narration:

Two working dogs, who toiled hard on the farm and had known many difficult days, saw the farmer’s wife sitting on the porch with her pampered house cat one afternoon.

“That spoiled cat has never seen a minute of work or trouble,” one dog said.

“I know — I feel bad for the poor creature,” said the other dog. “Can you imagine . . . never being allowed to face a single challenge? That cat thinks she’s lying in a lap, but she’s really sitting in a prison.”

For Parents: What Stoic Quote Does This Story Illustrate?

“I judge you unfortunate because you have never lived through misfortune. You have passed through life without an opponent — no one can ever know what you are capable of, not even you.”

Seneca
