Listen to the Narration:

A young donkey was purchased by a farmer and fastened to the back of a wagon with a length of rope. An old donkey was also tied there, to give the young donkey some company on the trip.

But the young donkey didn’t want to go along with the wagon, and he pulled and strained against the rope.

“It’s a short walk to the farm,” the old donkey said to the young donkey. “We can’t stop the wagon, so we might as well make the best of it. We’re going to end up where this thing is taking us, anyway.”

For Parents: What Stoic Quote Does This Story Illustrate?

“Lead me, Destiny, to whatever I was long ago assigned. I’ll gladly follow; for if I hesitate, I’ll have to go anyway. Life guides the willing, but drags the unwilling.”

Cleanthes of Assos
